What people say about Adobe Photoshop Elements 13

I’ve used Photoshop Elements since version 2 and I strongly believe it is the best photo-editing program available for under $100. It will do most of the editing tasks that the full version of Photoshop does but at a fraction of the cost. Plus, since Photoshop Elements is based on the full version of Photoshop everything you learn can be easily translated to the full version if you decide to purchase a subscription for Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud). This is the software I have my students purchase for the “Digital Photography” and “Digital Painting” college classes that I teach.

The new features in Elements 13 include the 64-bit installation if your computer is 64-bit and a few other features. I actually haven’t noticed the difference in speed from 32-bit to 64-bit. Perhaps I will later if I do any bulk processing. Otherwise, the “Photomerge Compose” feature is probably the top one and it does make it easier to copy people and objects from one photo to another. In addition, Elements 13 now has the “Intelligent Crop” feature which shows you some different cropping choices. As an advanced user I don’t find this that useful–but perhaps others will. There are a couple new “Guided Edit” features and some new “Effects Variations.” In the video I show how you can use one of the new Guided Edits to remove all but one color.

Rick, New Orleans, LA:

From the time I was eleven I’ve been into designing websites. Now I’m eighteen years old and looking into pursing web design as a career.I’m not stupid,I know that what I know about web design now isn’t nearly enough to get a job with.I’m planning on either going to college or taking a course on web design, but before I can make this kind of choice I need to know:

Is it difficult to break into the web design industry, even with proof of college or college level education and a portfolio?

Photoshop Tutors answer:

College is not required for a career in web design. You need to have the artistic skills and creativity to design cutting edge web pages, and be able to bring multiple pages together into a website.

You need to understand the social network, and have an elemental understanding of marketing. You need to have good tech skills. HTML, Cold Fusion, PHP, whatever. Dreamweaver probably.

Then you start building a portfolio. Build out a website of your own. Make it look great. Offer to build a few friends a website. Volunteer for a church, or fire station, or something like that.

Then you have creative skills, technical skills, and a portfolio of your work that people can look at. Print some business cards up, and constantly network. Hit sites like Craigslist and look for work.

Its not a hard career to break into, it can be a hard career to excel at, and make good money in.

However, it can be done.

College doesn’t mean much. We would prefer a web designer with an art degree versus IT degree, and frankly it doesn’t matter. Most great web designers are self taught.

HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites by Jon Duckett

Review

Programming books can often look rather intimidating and uninspiring, but they do not need to be. We wanted to redesign the tech book and make it more accessible, relevant, and attractive to a whole new group of readers. The result is a book that feels more like a magazine and is enjoyable to flick through, and looks like it belongs in the graphic design section rather than the programming section of a bookstore.

Features

– Large info-graphics are used to help simplify new or complex concepts
– Clean design and layout present each topic on a new page for easy reference
– Printed in full-color, using a vibrant palette to distinguish different types of code
– Attractive code samples help you make beautiful websites

Amazon.com Reviews:
This book is incredibly useful for those who want to build websites with no technical background. When I first read this book, I had already known HTML & CSS. I had the intentions of expanding my horizons with this book. Upon reading this book I had found that this book was very easy to understand and provided a lot of useful visual examples. Each chapter comes with an introduction as to what you will learn in that chapter; and at the end of a chapter, the skills you have learned are combined to create a sample website. This book goes through a lot and does more than explains how to do this, or how to achieve this look, but also goes in-depth to explain different layouts, and what set-ups make text easy to read, and a bunch of other useful things pertaining to your content and it’s looks.
This book is highly recommended for anyone with even the slightest interest of knowing web design.
