So I just purchased Photoshop CS4 extended (vista X64) and when I create a new page it comes up in a very light tan color. Even in the color tab the white looks kind of tan even though the RGB settings are all the way to the right (at 255 each). I know that my monitor displays white because in all of the tool drop down boxes the background is perfectly white.

I have an image with a white background that I wanna paste on my banner, but when I paste it the white background is there, which obviously doesn’t look good. I’ve read a few tutorials, but I need the smoothest way to cut out my image. I’ve heard of extracting but my Photoshop (CS4) doesn’t seem to have it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, one more question, how do I put my image over another background, like if I added another layer and colored it, how could I put my image over that background so I can see if I’m cutting it out well. I guess how do I transparent the image I’m cutting out so I can see it go over the background.
