So glad to hear that you found this easy to understand! That’s what I really strive to do. Thanks for letting me know. – Rick
Very easy to understand, thank you !
looking for WORKING adobe photoshop patch? i just saw one here bit.ly/nwargFM?=dnuip
No problem.
Thanks for sharing that Mike! – Rick
Actually, I notice that also occurs in Adobe’s CS5 version of Photoshop on Windows 7 as well! I’m pretty sure it’s a bug, and think it has to do with memory allocation. I notice it happens whenever I am intensely multitasking, like rendering something in After Effects while watching youtube videos and working on a photoshop project.
Hi Tom – It’s not you, I’ve heard the same from others so I did some research. It sounds like the crosshair is only in the Mac version of Elements. For some reason (probably a bug) it’s not in the PC version. – Rick
I do not get the Circle curser icon when I click on the Background Eraser tool! I have PSE10. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Rosie – I don’t think you sound dumb. I do have a video that I think might help you. Unfortunately these YouTube comments don’t allow live links.
It’s on my YouTube channel and it’s called “how to put a person into a new photo” For the part you need, go to minute 6 & 30 seconds in the video.
Start with watching that & see if it helps. Let me know if you’re still stuck and I’ll try to help. – Rick
Oh Rick thanks heaps…. do you have a video that shows this…?
I have now got a photo with the bits I don’t want in a checkboard and have no idea what to do with it…..If I open another photo then it shows the other photo’s layers not the photo I was working on and if I try to drag the photo it doesn’t allow this… I know I sound dumb but totally self taught through videos like yours…… So what you do when your images have checkerboard transparency I would like to see what you do next.
Hi Rosie – If I understand you correctly, you have exactly what you should have after going through the tutorial. Now you can drag the layer with the subject that is surrounded by the checkerboard pattern onto a different photo.
Let me know if you need further clarification and I will try to help. Good luck! – Rick
Ohhhh !!!
I did everything you said and ended up with two layers, background and background copy when I saved picture the picture shows the checkerboard pattern. How do I get the transparency to show in photo?
You’re welcome Jim. It’s got to be one of the most over-looked tools in Photoshop. – Rick
That’s great to hear! With 3000 photos to practice with, you’ll be a pro in no time. Thanks for the comment and good luck. – Rick
very useful. thanks. I’ve been using elements for 10 years and didnt know this
jim
I have had photoshop for years. I bought the book & tried on line tutorials, never got anywhere-until now. Your tutorials are great. You show every detail & make it so simple. I can’t wait to finally get to use pse. Thank You So Much. My 3000 + photos that are sitting in my computer thank you too!
Keep at it and you will get more comfortable with it. Don’t think you need to learn the whole program. Just find info specific to what you want to do or try a technique that looks interesting to you. I think the main thing is to use it as often as possible. Thanks for the feedback on the video, I appreciate it. Good luck. – Rick
This video was well spoken and understandable. Thank you and I can’t wait to view more. I am new to photoshop and it is not as user friendly. I feel so lost. But thank you:)
After reading your question I remembered someone else telling me the same thing, so I did some research. It sounds like the crosshair is only in the Mac version of Elements.
For some reason (probably a bug) it’s not in the PC version. – Rick
