GDs make about half of what’s listed in the Graphic Artists Guild Ethics book. They have $50k as a reasonable starting point, but the actual jobs you find will only pay $16k to $26k.
GD is not a field to be considering in this economy and certainly not in the U. S. — I’d recommend focusing on web design (self taught 2 years can net $30k easily) and make connections with other, *established* GDs to farm out your graphics work to.
I chose graphic design/ illustration because I enjoy creating works of art, I didnt choose this career for the money. In the end money does make you happy, but if you dont ”’enjoy”’ what you are doing. . . . . . . . . . . it is complete hell!!!!

Started with one 24 iMac to make sure I liked it, then made my whole office iMac. We still have a couple windows system, but I now hate to turn them on. We just use them for accounting now.
