ok i want to mae a graphic thats got a black background, with a black cross. the only thing that shows the cross is there is a light that would be shining behind it. its like there is a bright light behind the cross, but all you can see it the rays shining around the edges. can someone tell me how to do that on a photo editing program?
i have photoshop cs3 and paint.net

What program do you use pictures? Edit: I'm sorry John I only experience PaintShopPro9 & Adobe Photoshop 7. I have CS3 but I use it rarely. I hope that the idea of Vince can help in this or that)

Context and the cross should be on separate layers. Select the background layer, or, better yet, create a new layer between the bottom and the cross. Then, in the Filters menu, then click render lens flare. Play and find an environment that offers the exact type of lighting effects you want to see.
